PREPARATION OF SMOKELESS CHULLAS, KNOWN AS ‘IMPROVED COOKING STOVES’ (ICS) in TRIBAL HOUSEHOLDS
Project Name - NRM
Preparation of Smokeless chullas, known as ‘Improved Cooking Stoves’ (ICS) in Tribal households organized by the NRM project of Seva Kendra Calcutta. Smoke from the traditional chullas during cooking in rural kitchens is known as the ‘Silent killer’, as it is one of the major causes for the ill health of rural women and children, also polluting the environment. The NRM Project of SKC introduced an ‘Improved Cooking Stove’ to the rural households. This improved cooking stove is designed to limit the dangerous health hazards caused by inhaling a massive amount of carbon dioxide due to indoor cooking by rural women. The improved cooking stove reduces nearly 70% of smoke while cooking and also reduces 30% of firewood usage.
After training in Jan’20 by Samuchi Enviro tech- Pune, total of 30 households have already made the improved cooking stove in their kitchens, which is much safer than the traditional chullas and above all eco-friendly.
