FREE HEALTH CAMP

Project Name - Community Mobilization

A free health camp was organized by Seva Kendra Calcutta’s Community Mobilization Project on 16th December 2019 at Dhapa in collaboration with Frank Ross Pharmacy.
ECG, Blood Pressure and Diabetes tests were conducted along with eye examination and general health check-up. Medicines were provided free of cost. 84 people came for this health camp.

Charcoal Demonstration at Datan Block

Project Name - NRM
A Charcoal demonstration was conducted by the NRM project of Seva Kendra Calcutta at Dantan block, in West Midnapur. ‘Charcoal’ is a lightweight black carbon and ash residue hydrocarbon produced by removing water and other volatile constituents from animal and vegetation substance. Charcoal is usually produced by slow pyrolysis- the heating of wood and other substances in the absence of oxygen. The process of making charcoal is a recyclable preparation of cooking fuel and is a smokeless cooking procedure, which is much required in rural households, as they burn massive quantity of firewood for cooking. Also, it is an environment-friendly cooking system and is cheaper compared to other smokeless cooking options.

TRIBAL WOMEN EMPOWERED THROUGH SOLAR TECHNOLOGY

Project Name - NRM

Seva Kendra Calcutta's NRM project organized Tribal Women Empowered Through Solar Technology.
The goal of the project is to improve the energy security of about 1400 families in 16 villages in the district of West Midnapur and create new income opportunity for Adivasi women. So through Hands-on training on assembling of solar lanterns for the Producer groups, the project has developed 506 solar technicians out of it 402 are women, who have this as a full-time occupation earning Rs.5,32,600/-. The most innovative approach was to transform the mindset and livelihood of 506 tribal friends from sal leave collectors to solar technicians and trainers.

FREE GENERAL HEALTH CHECK UP CAMP

Project Name - SAMBANDH

Seva Kendra Calcutta's SAMBANDH project organized a free health check-up camp. SAMBANDH is a relationship development program in association with MAERSK and implemented by Seva Kendra, Calcutta designed for truck drivers to motivate and facilitate psycho-social and behavioral changes to transform their professional and personal lives including their families.
Free General Health Check-up camp was organized with Dr. Hiranmay Bala associated with SSKM Hospital, Kolkata. The program started with a welcome speech and awareness building orientation by Dr. Hiranmay Bala on maintaining proper health and hygiene, dehydration, healthy food habits. The tests done were: Blood Pressure and a general overview of the health of the truck drivers. Free general medicines were also distributed.

WORLD AIDS DAY...

PROJECT NAME - SAMBANDH

World AIDS Day, designated on 1 December every year since 1988, is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease.
Seva Kendra Calcutta's SAMBANDH team like every year created awareness on HIV/AIDS through miking, distribution of male contraceptives and quiz contests on World AIDS Day. The awareness campaign took place at Petrapole (Indo –Bangladesh Border Area), Bongaon North 24 Parganas and Garden Reach Port Area, Kolkata.

TRAFFIC AND ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS PROGRAM AT SUTRA PARKING CHAKDAH, NADIA

PROJECT NAME - SAMBANDH

The SAMBANDH project of SEVA KENDRA CALCUTTA organized a Traffic and Road Safety awareness program at Sutra Parking, Chakdah, Nadia.
SAMBANDH is a specially designed relationship development program implemented by Seva Kendra Calcutta in partnership with MAERSK to facilitate holistic development in the lives of truck drivers and their families and provide a strong platform for the truck drivers to liaison with multi-layered stakeholders in order to make their voices heard by one and all. Since it’s initiation on April 2016 it has been regularly organizing Traffic and Road Safety Awareness Programs with Traffic Police. On 18th November 2019, an awareness camp on Traffic and Road Safety was organized at Sutra Parking, Chakdah, Nadia.
Following are the program details:
I. Traffic road safety rules and regulations were discussed by Dinesh Chandra Paul, Second Officer in Charge Chakdah Thana Nadia.
II. Parking Rules and Regulations were discussed by Amar Ghosh, Asst Manager Sutra Parking.
III. Senior truck drivers shared their stories to motivate others for following road safety rules and regulations.

National Children's Day

Project Name- CLF

Seva Kendra Calcutta's CLF project organized Observation of National Children's Day 2019. The purpose of this event is to Aware the Community surrounding the School to know the purpose of Children's Day through conducting Rally and Leaf Zoo workshop.
The rally started at 02.30 p.m. on 14.11.19 from Taranipur Junior High and Taranipur Free Primary School Ground to Taranipur Bazar of Gobindapur GP. The rally ended at 03.30 p.m. The Leaf Zoo workshop at Baghghata Free Primary School of Saguna GP from 2.00 to 3.00 pm

Eco – Club at Solo Bigha Community

Project Name - Community Mobilization
Eco – Club at Solo Bigha Community
The Community Mobilization Project of Seva Kendra Calcutta organized an Awareness session on “Health & Hygiene” and a Workshop on “Best out of Waste” on 29 th and 30 th October 2019 for the Children of the Solo Bigha Slum area.
212 children participated in these sessions. It was a wonderful learning opportunity for the children who are part of the Eco-Club. They learnt how to create useful items out of waste products and also how to keep their homes and surroundings clean.

Creation of Mini forest in the dry zone of the Jhargram district, as a part of the ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ activity

Project Name - Swachhta Pakhwada

Jhargram is nicknamed as the ‘Jungle Mahal’, but the tragic part is that ‘Jungle or forest’ is diminishing day by day due to excessive deforestation for agricultural, industrial as well as for commercial purposes making our environment polluted and the wildlife homeless. The initiative of developing a mini forest in the area, which means re-creating a natural forest with the native trees, will help in restoring back the greenery and life for humans and shelter for various birds and animals.
The activity was supported by BPCL as a part of the project "Swachhta Pakhwada".

NRM Master Trainer, Mrs. Supriya Maicap from Dantan secured the second position in Bengali reality show ‘Didi No 1’ in Zee Bangla
Supriya Maicap a simple homemaker from one of the most backward villages named Gonpada, became the expect Master trainer in Dantan. She had earned a good income by assembling, marketing and providing training on solar lanterns. Her confidence became so firm, that she was auditioned for a famous reality show in Zee Bangla. She secured the 2 nd position. Today she is not only empowered but has become the role model of the entire village. People from nearby villages are coming to greet her, for the achievement. She says, ‘Solar has given me a new identity by transforming me from a shy housewife to a confident woman, I am proud to be a Master Trainer’. The same Father-in-law, who holds her from stepping out of the house, is now proud of
her. Congratulations to her for setting her journey from humiliation to dignified living.

Assembling of 3,000 solar lanterns by Producer group members in Dantan block

Seva Kendra Calcutta’s NRM project’s producer group (45 technicians) of Dantan Block received an order for assembling 3,000 solar lanterns from ‘Vision Pvt. Lmt’ within the duration of 3 months. Already 2,000 solar lanterns were completed and delivered before the deadline and the solar technicians earned a profit of Rs. 95,000. The Solar technology not only ensures them a Climate-friendly environment but secured a new way of livelihood.

Special Day celebration

Seva Kendra Calcutta's SAMBANDH project organized Special Day Celebration at their field offices in Kolkata, North 24 Parganas and East Midnapore in West Bengal and Anti Corruption Peace Rally at Gandhi Sevagram Ashram in Varda, Maharashtra. The following activities took place at the event :

Drivers' Day Celebration
Seva Kendra Calcutta's SAMBANDH project organized Drivers' Day Celebration for Truck Drivers. The Program started with a brief introduction of sambandh project and activities organized under our project and significance of celebrating driver's day followed by a short discussion on problems faced by drivers like wage issue, overtime, bad facilities, disrespect in workplace.
