First NGO to visit Jangalmahal

A preliminary survey in the four villages of Gopiballabpur Block was conducted by Seva 

Kendra Calcutta for the first time after peace returned to Jangalmahal. The four villages 

were Khandisole, Borojhowri, Chotojhowri and Purnaparai. The first three come under 

the Kendugarhi Panchayat and Purnaparai village comes under the Dudiapuria Saria 4 

Panchayat. The villagers of these four villages are predominantly Santhal and Lodha. 

Irrigation and availability of drinking water, Education and Health are the primary 

concerns and priorities of the inhabitants of these villages. Seva Kendra Calcutta is 

interested in working with governmental and non-governmental organizations inorder to 

address these needs and thus bring ‘hope and healing’ to the people of Jangalmahal.
