Ruby Jubilee Seminar 5
Sustainable Agriculture


On July 09, 2013, 82 participants attended the fifth Ruby Jubilee Seminar at Shanti Rani Girja in Bamandanga. The topic of the Seminar was "Sustainable Agriculture". The Seminar was conducted by a two-member team led by Dr. Haridas V.R. He is heading the Department of Natural Resources Management of Caritas, India. The other resource person was Dr. Pallav Dey of Cartias India Regional Office, Kolkata.

The seminar began with a welcome address by Rev. Fr. Henry Saldanha, the Parish Priest of Shanti Rani Girja. Dr. Franklin Menezes, the Director of Seva Kendra Calcutta introduced the resource persons and spoke about the relevance of 'Sustainable Agriculture' in West Bengal. Dr. Haridas V.R. during the course of seminar shared his experiences about the various components of organic farming.

The participants were enriched by the valuable and practical insights. At the end they took an oath to implement all that they had learnt during the seminar.

Loreto Convent School, Entally, reaches out to the flood victims of Uttarakhand

Heavy rainfall lashed the Indian State of Uttarakhand from the 14th till 17th June 2013 and caused landslides due to flashfloods. As a result, there was a huge loss to life and property.  People from all over the country and from abroad have come forward to extend their support in every way possible.  His Grace Archbishop Thomas D’souza, the Archbishop of Calcutta made an appeal to the catholic community in Kolkata to come forward and extend their support and solidarity in whichever way possible. In response to that appeal, Loreto Convent School, Entally were the first to contribute for this cause by donating Rs.1,07,381/-.
